CG, NPS CELEBRATES THE 2024 WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY
The Conservator-General, National Park Service, Dr. Ibrahim
Musa Goni has today (3/4/24) joined his State Minister, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle
Adeboye Salako and the honourable minister of information and National
Orientation, Mohammed Idris to celebrate the 2024 World Press Freedom Day at
the National Press Centre, Abuja.
The conference organized by the Federal Ministry of
Information and National Orientation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry
of Environment and UNESCO to mark the Day was anchored on a theme: The Press for
the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis:
The theme led to presentation of papers by the two ministers
and discussion on creating awareness on the importance of press freedom in
environmental journalism and the need for governments and others to respect,
uphold and defend the right to freedom of expression with responsibilities. The
discussion also recognized role of the Journalists in deepening good governance
and the challenges encountered by them in their day to day environmental
assignments and paid tribute to all journalists that lost theirs lives in the
line of duty.
The conference was also attended by other Heads of agencies from the Federal Ministries of Environment and Information/National Orientation, Director-Generals of the ministries, officials of UNESCO, Journalists of different Media organizations in Nigeria etc.
